Sanctuary Song was written in memory of Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez and his almost two-year old daughter, Valeria, who drowned in 2019 in the Rio Grande River near El Paso, while trying to cross from Mexico into Texas. For more information about their journey, read Daniella Silva's article from June 26, 2019: www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/family-salvadoran-migrant-dad-child-who-drowned-say-he-loved-n1022226.
Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez
His daughter, Valeria, almost two years
North from El Salvador, and on into Mexico
Heading for Texas, a life without fear
Father and daughter, drowned in the water
Arms round each other in reeds by the shore
Pray for the fathers, the mothers, the children
Pray for them all and for so many more
Oh, Sweet Jesus, hear our prayer, hear our prayer
Love is in the shadows, darkness everywhere
Shine your light, Sweet Jesus, on the tired and on the poor
On the homeless and forgotten seeking shelter on our shore
El Chaparral and Nuevo Laredo
Paso del Norte, Nuevo Leon
So many doorways to hope now are closing
All in the name of protecting our own
Oh, Sweet Jesus, hear our prayer, hear our prayer
Love is in the shadows, darkness everywhere
Shine your light, Sweet Jesus, on the tired and on the poor
On the homeless and forgotten seeking shelter on our shore
Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez
His daughter, Valeria, almost two years
Father and daughter, dead at the border
The end of their journey, the worst of their fears
Oh, Sweet Jesus, hear our prayer, hear our prayer
Love is in the shadows, darkness everywhere
Shine your light, Sweet Jesus, on the tired and on the poor
On the homeless and forgotten seeking shelter on our shore

Great choice of music, expertly played and sung. Nicely produced. I hope to see The Onlies live, asap. This is an album I listen to over and over. Karamogo

I listen to this when I need music to lift my spirits. This whole album does that. This track is the very best but it all works. Keep doing what you do. oldbanjo61
